WEST LIBERTY, IA- The Marvin & Mickie Hinrichs Family of Nichols have made a $6,000 donation to the new Event Center at the Muscatine County Fair. Marvin and Mickie have seven children Lisa Eckman, Lindsay Hinrichs, Lynn Hinrichs, Beth Anderson, Steve Hinrichs, Sue Graham, and Sarah Kneer.
Marvin grew up in the country outside of Atalissa and Mickie grew up in Atalissa. Mickie was very involved in 4-H growing up doing many cooking and sewing projects and bringing them to exhibit at the fair. Their son, Steve, was also involved and active in FFA. Marvin grew up attending the fair with his Grandpa Ed, and Marvin’s Dad Alvin. Alvin took tickets at the south gate for many years, and he also helped with parking cars.
Marvin and Mickie married and moved south of Nichols and farmed all their life and still reside there today. They raised seven children on the farm, where all the kids would help in the garden and in the fields all summer long to earn money to attend the fair each summer. Going to the fair was a big vacation to the family, and it truly was the highlight of the summer for the whole family. Both Marvin and all the kids loved the rides and the games, it is one of their biggest memories at the fair. But they also spent a lot of time in the grove area and listening to the entertainment there, as that is what Mickie enjoys most during the fair.
Marvin and Mickie think the fair is a great place for people to gather and see people they haven’t seen all year and get a chance to catch up with people from around the county. “We feel the new event center will be a great addition to the fair and give a great place for people to gather.” Said Marvin.
“I can’t thank Marvin and Mickie and their family enough for their generous donation to the event center. It helps tremendously.” Said Kelsey Meyers, Muscatine County Fair Manager.
